Abbie Ozard - 'Grown' Single Review

Abbie Ozard released new single 'Grown' today (30/11/21) accompanied by a video premiere this evening, on The Fader for the single. Known for her thoughtful, storytelling style 'Grown' incorporates samples from her family home videos and both starts and ends with these and a simple piano accompaniment. The track builds atmospherically after reflecting back and questioning a past relationship, as Abbie says "everything has changed......and I hope you're happy and your hearts still fine without me", and is possibly more reflective and melancholy in style than some of her previous tracks. What stands out are the emotionally beautiful vocals and the clever and effective pace of the song with the simple start, epic build and then return to the heartbreaking simplicity one again to conclude. This effectively makes you feel the song and the lyrics in full force!

Abbie said of the track "I wrote 'Grown' back in 2017, 4 years ago, when I was coming out of a rough patch, and it helped me see the light and accept that things change, people change-they grow, leave your life and meet new people, and that's totally ok. I used to, and probably still do, have a hard time accepting that people come in and out of your life. I couldn't comprehend that a person can be your best friend for years, and then suddenly become a total stranger-I found it really hard to get my head around. I hope it helps other people like it helped me, and I hope it helps you remember that you haven't met half the people you're going to love in your lifetime yet, because that to me is pretty cool and comforting. It's the most important song that I've ever written to me, and will likely stay with me forever."

With a feature on Radio 1's Future Artists with Jack Saunders last night and the announcement yesterday of a slot on next years Truck Festival line up, Abbie is having a great week so far!

  Waterparks - The Anti Tour Show Allow the self indulgence, but I'm going to write a review of my favourite band - Waterparks, who just did an online concert through Veeps last night - The Anti Tour Show (27th March). It's been just over a year since I last saw Awsten Knight, Geoff Wigington and Otto Wood live in London, and since this they've released two further singles 'Lowkey As Hell' and 'Snow Globe' which will feature on their new album 'Greatest Hits' out May 21st.  The stage was beautiful, set up like a forest. Awsten described it as "the most romantic woods you've ever seen".  Declan McKenna Zeros Tour J1, Cambridge Junction - 23rd August 2021 "Cambridge are the OG's... everyone in this room saw me busking in the street 5 years ago." Declan McKenna appreciatively told the sold out crowd on the first night of his Zeros Tour, kicking off in Cambridge last night. With the checkerboard stage set with glitter balls and confetti cannons, the atmosphere was electric! You better believe Declan was on top form wearing his glittery suit, and the set had everything that you could have asked for. This gig was a humongous deal for me as it marked my return to indoor gigs for the first time in 18 months, and I couldn't think of anyone better to do it with than Declan!
