'Culture Non-Stop' - The Skinner Brothers EP Review

'Culture Non-Stop' - The Skinner Brothers EP Review

The Skinner Brothers dropped their new EP 'Culture Non-Stop' on Friday 6th August. An indie band with an arena sound, The Skinner Brothers tell stories of football, drugs, booze, sex and love! Four explosive and individual brand new tracks make up an EP full of swagger and attitude!

First up is the title track; 'Culture Non-Stop' - from the start you know this is the Skinner Brothers as Zac's distinctive vocals draw you in. With fuzzy guitar riffs and driven by the drums, this song is an upbeat swipe at the bullshit! It has an addictive quality to it - I could happily have it on repeat - and as the song itself says "I need the music in my system to feel high".

With the second track 'Told You So' we have more of a dance vibe with a definite
summer festival feel coming from the guitar riff and the bass. This will fit in perfectly with the news announced yesterday that they will be performing at the Isle of Wight festival with This Feeling!

I am loving the simple intro of track three, 'Jericho Star' - a lovely indie melody that literally made me smile! So here we have the love song, Skinner Brothers style; "All I want to do is waste some time with you". A sweet and vulnerable side to the band that I definitely enjoyed hearing.

The final track on the EP 'Mountain High' is a heavier one - this will be a crowd pleaser and mosh pit number. "Jump from the pit to the stage, that's my hype". A Skinner Brothers EP wouldn't be complete without a football reference and here we have it in the form of both Fifa and the line "straight in off the bar". Loving the vibes from chorus in this one too, gave me a retro feel.

The whole EP is full of catchy guitar riffs, huge drums and classy bass. It strengthens their position as one of the hottest bands to see live at the moment. With their sold out headline show tomorrow at The 100 Club followed by performances at The Crystal Palace Bowl supporting The Streets later this month, August is looking hot for the Skinner Brothers.

Declan McKenna Zeros Tour

Declan McKenna Zeros Tour J1, Cambridge Junction - 23rd August 2021 "Cambridge are the OG's... everyone in this room saw me busking in the street 5 years ago." Declan McKenna appreciatively told the sold out crowd on the first night of his Zeros Tour, kicking off in Cambridge last night. With the checkerboard stage set with glitter balls and confetti cannons, the atmosphere was electric! You better believe Declan was on top form wearing his glittery suit, and the set had everything that you could have asked for. This gig was a humongous deal for me as it marked my return to indoor gigs for the first time in 18 months, and I couldn't think of anyone better to do it with than Declan! He gave the crowd exactly what they wanted with a blistering start performing 'Beautiful Faces', 'Rapture' and 'Sagittarius A*' accompanied by the confetti cannons going off, making sure that the concert literally started with a bang!  Declan appeared to be full of ...

My Favourite Memories from Gigs

My Favourite Memories from Gigs (All of these photos and videos were taken by me and are my own personal videos) With the news that concerts may be returning from 21st of June, I got myself some tickets booked, in the hopes that I may get to do some gig reviews! This got me thinking back to all the concerts I've been to before, so I've decided to share some of my favourite memories and experiences from gigs! 1. Remington Leith Concerning the Health and Safety Officials! I went to see Palaye Royale at Shepherd's Bush O2 Empire on the 21st February 2020. It was the most exciting concert I've ever been to, and it ended with frontman Remington Leith climbing up onto the balcony and hanging upside down! I was lucky enough to meet the band at their pop-up shop the next day, and Remington told me his mum wasn't impressed with the danger he was putting himself in!  2. Awsten Knight's Superpower On the 1st of February 2020, I had VIP tickets to see Waterparks in the Elec...

Greysha - 'Gold Glaze' Single Review

19 year old, Shropshire based singer/songwriter Greysha released 'Gold Glaze' on 20th October.  A beautiful and reflective song about looking back at key events in your life. Told from the perspective of growing up it touches on lots of subjects many teenagers will recognise in themselves, not wanting to be in class, rebellious piercings, also however the more serious and poignant subjects of family and looking back at happier times.  As a subscriber to her mailing list from back when I bought the CD of her previous single 'Aspirin' , Greysha said of 'Gold Glaze' on release "I have poured my soul and a little part of who I am into this" The inflection and emotion she puts into the vocals literally make you feel this is true. A track with layered harmonies and cinematic strings, you smile and you even sing along to the "Gold Glaze" part but you also feel Greysha's pain at times..."Tell the darkness to stay back another day"  Gr...
