Let's Talk About Gigs - Collars

Collars are indie punk duo, Dan and Kane, from Cambridgeshire. They released their debut album 'Clyde' last month and have so many gigs coming up before the end of the year for their 'Clyde Tour', so they seemed like the perfect duo to talk about gigs with;

What was the first ever concert you went to?
DAN: Stereophonics supported by Feeder, although it was very nearly Blue!
KANE: Mine was Iron Maiden at Brixton Academy

Who is your favourite band/artist to see live?
DAN: There are loads of local bands that I never tire of seeing live, like Bag Of Cans, Goldblume, Das Kapitans, Fleas etc. but someone who really blew my mind a while ago was Margaret Glaspy, who we saw at Moth Club in London. She's on another level. Ditto Radiohead and Sam Fender - the only two live acts to ever make me cry.
KANE: I saw Bob Dylan once at this tiny festival in Kent, totally life changing. We've also seen Twenty One Pilots a few times, no one puts on a show like those guys.

What band/artist have you seen live the most times?
DAN: I reckon it's probably Mystery Jets. They used to play so many in-stores and random gigs when the first album came out and I went to as many as humanly possible.
KANE: I think it's Foo Fighters, I must have seen them 4 or 5 times.

What is the next gig you have tickets for?
DAN: They're for The Amazons and Mama Oh No at The Waterfront in Norwich, although we're mainly going for bluesy indie legends Mama Oh No. If you like Black Keys, you'll love 'em!

Where and when are you next performing live?
DAN: We're back in Norwich for Wild Paths Festival, which will be hella fun. Come see us at Voodoo Daddy's at 5pm on the Saturday (15th October).

I would definitely recommend catching Collars at one of their tour dates if you can - I've seen them live a couple of times and they are absolutely brilliant, look out for Kane who plays guitar and drums at the same time!

Greysha - 'Gold Glaze' Single Review

19 year old, Shropshire based singer/songwriter Greysha released 'Gold Glaze' on 20th October.  A beautiful and reflective song about looking back at key events in your life. Told from the perspective of growing up it touches on lots of subjects many teenagers will recognise in themselves, not wanting to be in class, rebellious piercings, also however the more serious and poignant subjects of family and looking back at happier times.  As a subscriber to her mailing list from back when I bought the CD of her previous single 'Aspirin' , Greysha said of 'Gold Glaze' on release "I have poured my soul and a little part of who I am into this" The inflection and emotion she puts into the vocals literally make you feel this is true. A track with layered harmonies and cinematic strings, you smile and you even sing along to the "Gold Glaze" part but you also feel Greysha's pain at times..."Tell the darkness to stay back another day"  Gr

The Skinner Brothers - 'Iconic' EP Review

The Skinner Brothers - 'Iconic' EP Review Tomorrow (Friday 7th May 2021) sees The Skinner Brothers drop their new EP 'Iconic'!  As their Spotify bio says, "The Skinner Brothers don't fuck about" and this 4-track EP backs up this claim! The EP explodes into action with two new tracks and two previously released singles - but with a twist. First up, the title track 'Iconic' starts with Zac Skinner's vocals and a guitar - then the beat comes in hard and we're rockin'! This is an amazing start, a track full of swag and attitude and will get the crowd chanting along "Iconic" in the build up to the final chorus. 'Iconic' is for winning the game with success against all odds "Get on it, step on it, subsonic, iconic." The second, and other brand new track is 'M.O.R.E', heavier than 'Iconic', it starts small and grows into an anthem oozing with self confidence. 'M.O.R.E' mentions getting up m

Declan McKenna Zeros Tour

Declan McKenna Zeros Tour J1, Cambridge Junction - 23rd August 2021 "Cambridge are the OG's... everyone in this room saw me busking in the street 5 years ago." Declan McKenna appreciatively told the sold out crowd on the first night of his Zeros Tour, kicking off in Cambridge last night. With the checkerboard stage set with glitter balls and confetti cannons, the atmosphere was electric! You better believe Declan was on top form wearing his glittery suit, and the set had everything that you could have asked for. This gig was a humongous deal for me as it marked my return to indoor gigs for the first time in 18 months, and I couldn't think of anyone better to do it with than Declan! He gave the crowd exactly what they wanted with a blistering start performing 'Beautiful Faces', 'Rapture' and 'Sagittarius A*' accompanied by the confetti cannons going off, making sure that the concert literally started with a bang!  Declan appeared to be full of
