Call to the Faithful & Dear Monday Live Show

Call to the Faithful & Dear Monday Live Show

On Thursday 23rd September I went to the Portland Arms in Cambridge to catch the amazing and loud sets from Peterborough rock band Call to the Faithful, and Cambridge indie-rock band Dear Monday.

Call to the Faithful's Matt, Oscar & Will, performed an energetic and massive set starting big with their single from earlier this year 'Animals' followed by current single 'Thieves and Liars'. Unfortunately Ethan was unwell, so Simon from Das Kapitans stepped in on bass for the evening and the guys performed one of theirs in homage. Frontman Matt told me afterwards he went too hard on their explosive Rage Against The Machine cover and blew his voice out but you wouldn't have noticed as they ended the set with a blasting new one, due for release 1st October, 'It Doesn't Matter'. Full of rock anthems with big drums and guitar solos that were on point, these guys are smashing the Cambridgeshire rock scene.

Dear Monday encouraged the crowd to shake their hips and get up close and personal to enjoy their fantastic set. With catchy melodies and lyrics this is a performance to dance along to. After a summer of festival appearances, this band are full of personality and a joy to listen to. If you haven't heard it yet, then check out their single 'Show Love' on Spotify from earlier this year, it's an absolute masterpiece with massive vocals, big drums and such vibey guitars! Jamie's voice is stunning and the band literally command and keep your full attention for the entire time they're on stage. I honestly will be first in line for tickets to their gigs. I had a great night, thank you guys!

The Skinner Brothers - 'Iconic' EP Review

The Skinner Brothers - 'Iconic' EP Review Tomorrow (Friday 7th May 2021) sees The Skinner Brothers drop their new EP 'Iconic'!  As their Spotify bio says, "The Skinner Brothers don't fuck about" and this 4-track EP backs up this claim! The EP explodes into action with two new tracks and two previously released singles - but with a twist. First up, the title track 'Iconic' starts with Zac Skinner's vocals and a guitar - then the beat comes in hard and we're rockin'! This is an amazing start, a track full of swag and attitude and will get the crowd chanting along "Iconic" in the build up to the final chorus. 'Iconic' is for winning the game with success against all odds "Get on it, step on it, subsonic, iconic." The second, and other brand new track is 'M.O.R.E', heavier than 'Iconic', it starts small and grows into an anthem oozing with self confidence. 'M.O.R.E' mentions getting up m

Greysha - 'Gold Glaze' Single Review

19 year old, Shropshire based singer/songwriter Greysha released 'Gold Glaze' on 20th October.  A beautiful and reflective song about looking back at key events in your life. Told from the perspective of growing up it touches on lots of subjects many teenagers will recognise in themselves, not wanting to be in class, rebellious piercings, also however the more serious and poignant subjects of family and looking back at happier times.  As a subscriber to her mailing list from back when I bought the CD of her previous single 'Aspirin' , Greysha said of 'Gold Glaze' on release "I have poured my soul and a little part of who I am into this" The inflection and emotion she puts into the vocals literally make you feel this is true. A track with layered harmonies and cinematic strings, you smile and you even sing along to the "Gold Glaze" part but you also feel Greysha's pain at times..."Tell the darkness to stay back another day"  Gr

Waterparks - The Anti Tour Show

Waterparks - The Anti Tour Show Allow the self indulgence, but I'm going to write a review of my favourite band - Waterparks, who just did an online concert through Veeps last night - The Anti Tour Show (27th March). It's been just over a year since I last saw Awsten Knight, Geoff Wigington and Otto Wood live in London, and since this they've released two further singles 'Lowkey As Hell' and 'Snow Globe' which will feature on their new album 'Greatest Hits' out May 21st.  The stage was beautiful, set up like a forest. Awsten described it as "the most romantic woods you've ever seen". There was obviously a reason behind the bikes and fire hydrants entangled in the leaves, which I'm sure will reveal itself when the album is released.  As with all Waterparks events, the recording was amazing - overseen by Jawn Rocha, who seems to meticulously plan the filming in fine detail. It's surprising how much the varying camera angles, per
