The Dead Freights are a 4-piece band from Southampton, who describe their music as 'Gothic poetry spat over disco Nirvana'. Their latest single, 'Fever and The Thunder' is a sassy rock'n'roll song with a dramatic kick-ass chorus. The entertainment level of this band, from their music videos on YouTube to their Instagram stories demonstrates another level of creative genius!
I caught the drummer, Louis, bored during isolation, and took advantage of this by jumping at the opportunity to ask him some questions for my blog!
Grace: How would you introduce yourself at a party?
Louis: I think I'd be so excited to be at a party right now that there'd be no time for introductions, no time for small talk of any kind, I'd just get straight to the breakdancing. I probably wouldn't need to introduce myself anyway because it would be my party and everyone would know me, or at least they better pretend!
Grace: What is your go to karaoke song?
Louis: People like to make jokes that drummers can't sing but I've been known to do a beautiful rendition of 'No Woman No Cry' by the late great Bob Marley. I'd even go as far as to say I've got the best voice in the band. I've got the voice of a fucking angel and I hope the others read this. I think it's important they know that I could go solo in a heartbeat, keeps them on their toes.
Grace: If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?
Louis: The power of flight. My mum says I am a superhero already but she's been known to bend the truth so I'll try taking off from the ground first, just in case she's full of shit. Don't want to be one of those people you read about who take off from the roof and realise they can't fly just because they hit the ground.
Grace: If coronavirus forces us to relocate to a new planet, which one would you want it to be?
Louis: It wouldn't be a planet that I know the name of because all of them are famously inhospitable; I mean Neptune is made of gas! The virus would seem like a birthday present after trying to pitch a tent there. It would have to be a parallel world with a similar climate to earth, a similar climate and ideally somewhere where the majority value real music because currently, on earth, the most popular music makes me feel sick.
Grace: What secret conspiracy theory shall we start?
Louis: The problem is with the state of the world today once outrageous conspiracy theories are now plausible. Normality is the new conspiracy. How're these for conspiracy theories? Going to school helps you learn. Watching the news tells you facts and social media is a tool for connection not division (actually went for a real answer here)
I really want to say thank you to Louis again for talking to me, and I can't wait to see what 2021 brings us from The Dead Freights!
